Protect Your Car In The Indianapolis Area
Car break-ins are up dramatically in the Indianapolis, Carmel, and Fishers areas. I am personally aware of six people who have had their cars broken into, and property stolen, in the last week. Not only are people having valuables stolen, but they then have to have damage to their vehicles fixed. As someone who loves cars, I’ve put together some tips to keep this from happening.
1. Don’t leave valuables in view from the outside. It only takes a second for a thief to spot items in passing. In most recent cases, it’s been laptop computer bags in view.
2. Make sure any portable device cables, such as auxiliary cables or iPod connectors are not in view, even if nothing is plugged in. A thief may assume the device is in the car, prompting a break in.
3. Make sure your purse or briefcase is hidden. The trunk is the best place for such items. These thieves are looking for what they can see and steal quickly.
4. Whenever possible, park in a highly visible spot. At night, find the spot with the best lighting available. This will help you protect your car, and most importantly, yourself.
I hope these tips help. Just remember to use common sense, and know that no parking lot, no matter the part of town, is 100% safe from thieves. But if you make it so they can’t see your valuables, chances are they’ll move on.
